]> Scholarship Application for NBTSC 2003 -NBTSC 2003 Scholarship Information- Before applying for a scholarship to NBTSC, you should know: This is a half scholarship-you would pay $242, or half of the regular fee, and we would waive the other half. We choose people based mainly on financial need. Secondarily, we want to spread scholarships among new and returning campers, boys and girls, people of different ethnic backgrounds, new and experienced unschoolers, etc. In order to apply for a scholarship, you must also register for camp. However, if you do not receive a scholarship you are not obligated to attend. There is a question on the registration form that says "I will attend NBTSC whether or not I receive a scholarship/work trade: ______yes ______no." Be sure to check no if you want to get your deposit back. Contrary to what the registration form says, we will hold a spot at camp for you (if we receive your registration before camp is full) until we make decisions about who gets scholarships. Also, you can ask us to hold your deposit check and cash it only if we give you a scholarship. Sorry for the confusion and complexity of all this. This is not a worktrade; we do not ask you for any work in exchange for this scholarship. Either the camper or her/his parents can fill out this form. However, if it describes the parents/ financial situation, then we require that parents at least read it over and sign it. We probably won't be able to give scholarships to everyone who requests one, so keep in mind that many people earn money for camp in a variety of ways. One girl sells candy in her yard, right after the nearby school gets out in the afternoon, while kids are walking home. Some people get jobs. One girl earned all of her 1999 money by playing her violin on street corners. Some people sell copies of Grace's books to relatives, school friends, local homeschoolers, whoever. (Several campers have sold over 50 copies of the Teenage Liberation Handbook to their friends. See http://www.LowryHousePublishers.com/buy.htm for information.) You could ask for a group of your friends and relatives-or your local homeschool support group- to sponsor you, spreading the cost among lots of people. Good luck! Postmark deadline for applications is March 18, 2003. Mail to NBTSC Scholarship Applications, P.O. Box 1014, Eugene, OR 97440, or fax to 509- 696-3310. (Sorry, no email applications.) We'll let you know ASAP (by April 18 at the latest) whether we have a scholarship for you. ------------------------------------------------ /Office use only:/ Date rec'd___________ Notes: -NBTSC 2003 Scholarship Application- Camper's name_________________________________ gender M____ F_____ Parent's name(s) ______________________________________________________ Address: ________________________________ ________________________________ ________________________________ Phone #_________________________________ email _________________________________ Camper's age as of August 25, 2003 ______ birthdate ___________ Racial/ethnic background (optional-to help us attract an ethnically diverse group of people, if possible: _____________________ Are you also applying for a worktrade? _______ If so, is your first preference a scholarship or a worktrade?____________________ Which session do you prefer?
