| Colleges To Consider |
And, what kind of questions should people ask, when they're trying to decide which college to go to? Any ideas on that....?

REED College in Portland Oregon!! I'm pretty sure thats where I'm going, dude, it rocks! ~Jadzia
Anyone have any suggestions/knowledge about colleges with good music programs (in America)? Well, besides the obvious Juilliard and Curtis. - erin
- have you checked out the college music directory thingy put out by Strings Magazine every year? I have this year's issue with it, and can send it to ya if you can't find it anywhere..
Mari (mari at nbtsc.org)
Go to Colorado State University... cause that's where I'm going in fall.... (and why I can't make camp this year)...... jason
Wow, whatever are you going to do there, Jason?
Good question.... my first choice was UC- Santa Barbara, but I missed the deadline. All the other So Cal schools were either too small, religious, or right in LA..... You may be wondering, why do I go to college at all? There are only two ways to live off my parents: go to college or stay at home. I can not take the sticks in Tenessee for any longer.... so I had to find somewhere. This placed seemed nice, voted best city in the country by newsweek or someone, and I liked the campus..... plus they have lots of overseas affiliations, where I can go to a college in another coutry for the same price, which I will probably do after about 2 years...... Wow... I'm good at rambling when I'm tired huh?
I am looking into going either to Evergreen State or to St Johns (a great books collage for those who are not aware of it). So If possible it would be great to see a camper or two there.

- I was looking into St. John's for a long time, mostly because it was the only one i'd heard of that sounded interesting. do you know any more information off the top of your head about it? -roya
First off.... I did not invent this page... so for those of you who are going to groan about this apparently shameless plug for the little place I call paradise, I repeat: I did not invent this page. I saw the description of it from the WikiWiki mainpage and thought I'd describe my college, that's all...
My college is refered to as Augustana University College (in Camrose, Alberta). All first year students are required to live on campus, which forces everyone to interact, at least to a degree, with others. Living on campus you end up with a meal card, which lets you eat all you want in the cafeteria, and meals can be either total torture or a great time to joke and laugh with friends. People are pretty friendly and there is a fairly good variety of people.
At Augustana everyone is encouraged to meet with their professors outside of class just to visit. Strange but fun. Some of them are really neat.
City/Community Colleges. They are fantastic places to get used to the college atmosphere and demands. Also the school atmosphere. They're also good places to do your freshman/sophmore years so you can live at home while you do all the general educations classes. And of course a great place to meet friends of all ages who like learning.
I'd just like to put three quick plugs in: Evergreen State (in WA) is really cool. It's alternative, no grades, and very splufty (hey, it'll never catch on if we don't overuse it). Pomona, in CA, is a splufty liberal-arts college with all kinds of neat programs ... I may go there. (Liberal, in this sense, means "free", btw ~ the general education of a free person as opposed to nobility or servants.) Also, if you feel like going overseas for your college-equivalent years, look at Norway's folkschools: boatbuilding, biology, embroidery, printing, wed design, farming ... splufty! Xick oh, and p.s., Reading (pronounced redding), in England, is splufty, and so is Reed (pronounced read) in Portland.
Yes, come to Reed, cause that's where your dear beckina is, and she misses you! The food's pretty good (they do vegan well), the people are chill, we have similiar conversations to those I've had at nbtsc, and portland just basically rocks. Reed is like nbtsc, but with more academics, drugs, sex, and tuition (but you'll get scholarships like me.)
Seems like most of the other 'alternative' colleges have been mentioned: what about....
New College!!!! http://www.newcollege.usf.edu If you're planning on going to college but wouldn't mind an institution based on the idea that "In the last analysis, each student is responsible for his or her own education"... if you don't want grades... if you do want beautiful coastal Florida.... if you want to know that you can get into graduate schools if you want to... if you want a small community of 600 (yes, that's six *hundred*) intelligent, mostly liberal fellow students... if you don't want across the board course requirements ("English 101")... if you do want any sort of credit for independent study... come join me here in lovely Sarasota, Florida! It's a slice of paradise. This is definitely an unschoolish college, and we need more students here who understand that! There are very nbtscish conversations, and, uh, the food doesn't suck (and they do vegan), and the dorms are very large.
Or you could always just stop by and visit me. (:

I want an art school. where they do ceramics and photography and jazz ensembles and creative writing all in the same place. i really haven't started looking, mainly because i'm going to community college and plan on staying here for a while - but if anyone knows any information, i'd love to learn all i can.

I am considering going to the Academy of Art College in San Fransisco to improve my skills in fine art and computer art. I think that I will go to the Santa Rosa Junior College first just to see if I like college... although I have heard many people say that real college is completely different then comunity college.
I am also pretty scared that if I go to college, I will end up with a job, 9-5 always scared me... Maybe it won't be so bad if its something that I love... But still, I don't want my job or college to get in the way of my life. Oy.

Mills College! in oakland, california. its an all girls college (there are a lot of lesbians there) and its right in the city so there are things to do. its a private college so it is rather expensive, but it has a beautiful campus and a kick ass staff. and your aloud to make your own major. that rules. so, yeah. mills.~Malia
