Page started Mar 17, 2002.
Hi everybody, I'm not sure if there's a big need for this or not, but I
thought we might use this (maybe as we get closer to the campout??) here
instead of cluttering up the party page--and I would love to talk to some of
you if you're willing. I am really looking forward to the campout and I
would love to get to know some of you beforehand! --Rachel H (or RH)
- Thanks for starting it, saves me the trouble Dysk
The short facts
What: A campout for entire nbtsc families to get to know and enjoy
each other.
When: July 16th through July 23rd, 2002
Where: Chris Park, North of Durango, Colorado
The F word (Food)
Me and my mother have been talking a bit about how to make food happen and basically what we've figured is that dinners will somewhat of a focal point with food prepared and eaten as a group. Breakfasts and lunches will be up to individual families although certainly people are more than welcome to pool resources and labor. dYsk
Anything you want on the menu?
Activities
- There will be a lot of people who haven't been assimilated yet so we need to make it a point to play psychiatrist at least a few times. cackle cackle cackle dYsk
- Well, I think the idea of talent shows and/or maybe some other kinds of theatrical productions sound like fun! I'm not the best at creating plays but I like to play comic roles...heh heh. So if anyone's a playwright and wishes to bring something....
And is anyone going to be bringing musical instruments? I play violin...well, used to, but I was thinking of bringing it along anyway, especailly if others are planning to bring their intruments. I've never actually "fiddled" so I'd be intrerested in learning how if anyone else does.
But I love camping and being outdoors, so I'm sure I'll have fun no matter what happens!! :)

- And Mom wants to play charades. :) Heh heh.
RH
- We will be adding an electric piano to the fray and maybe some of the usual noisemakers (cowbells, shakers, tambarines, etc.) if there's room in the car. As for theatrical productions you or anyone else is more than welcome to organize one I'm sure that people will join in. We've been hearing a lot about talent shows so that will definitely need to happen. It's probable that there will be quite a bit of informal music so please bring along your large grand pianos and pipe organs or whatever else suits your fancy. dYsk 4/3/02
- Yeah.... I was planning on bringing my guitar, along with a couple penny whistles and recorders that my brother and I have been struggling to be able to play worth a hill of beans (with little or no success), so instruments will definitely be there. The idea of a talent show sounds awesome. Being the performer I am, I'm all for it. Hehe.

- The electric piano brings up another thing
is there going to be electricity at the campground? Does anyone know? RH
Announcements
Hi All, We're pleased to announce that we now have a location for the campout. We have reserved a group campsite at Chris Park, north of durango in Colorado. Special thanks to Barbara Dyskant and Kris Fellback fr making this happen. Now all we have to do is decide what to do with our time there. DYsk 3/23/2002
Introductions/Loose conversation
3/17/02
Let me introduce myself a little bit (me from above again). I've never attended camp but I've surfed by NBTSC's main page for several years now looking for like-minded people, and it wasn't until last December that I finally took another look into Wiki and realised I could actually understand it pretty easily, and here were people!! So, uh, yes, that has made me very happy. (Unfortunely, I still feel lonely that I don't know more of you!) I feel really comfortable using Wiki and very accepted and at home here. I only hope that you don't all feel as if I am intruding, not being a camper (yet I may be going this fall). My sister and brother (Elizabeth and Henry) and I are life-long unschoolers. I've played violin and danced for years, although I'm on a "break" of sorts from both of them (for very different reasons I would love to stil be dancing steadily but there just aren't classes readily available for me at the moment), and I'm in a loose-ends sort of stage in my life right now. (I'm boycotting college this year too. woo.) I'm really looking forward to the summer when I can begin some new things/projects, mostly yet unknown, some of them with my mother, who will be out of school then, cut my hair really short if I dare, etc.
So...I hope this hasn't sounded too strange and I would love to hear from any of you who are planning to go to the campout! I also thought this might be a good place to talk about logistics later on, if needed.
Cheers :)
Rachel H.
Hullo, Rachel. There are several people who haven't been to camp (yet!) who are going to the campout. Not that it really matters whether you know people or not, because we'll sort of absorb you. *grins* Anyway, I've been to camp twice, in 2000 and 2001 (sessions 1 and 2, respectively), and it's a blast. I went to camp in 2000 without knowing anyone, too, and it all worked out fine. I think the other people are Heather and Jaz from Alaska. A lot of younger siblings are coming, too, so.. yeah.
I'm 15... sort of trying to figure out how much of my R.N. or B.S.N. I can get without actually having to pay for it. That's a big part of my life - trying to get a college education without really having to pay for it. I also figure skate and dance and play guitar and a variety of other things that I'm not going to bore you with. Feel free to e-mail me at fiona at nbtsc.org and we can talk logistics/other stuff. ...Yeah. I also have a tendency to ramble a little more than neccessary.
Hey, Fiona!! Thanks for writing on my new page so soon after it went up! That makes me happy. :)
I've read some of your stuff around Wiki Wiki...I knew you ice skated. That sounds like a lot of fun; it's something I've never done (like never, except once that I can remeber) but I'd love to try it someday, and I love to watch figure skating.
Ah yes, trying to think of ways I could "cheat" and get a college degree without, um , really having to get one?, is something I've done a lot too. For me it hasn't been so much the money yet, although if I do enter into college "for real" sometime, I'm sure I'll have to address that.
Well, I'll let you go now. You probably wanted me to write you at your e-mail anyway? *grins*

P.S. Cool that there are some other not-yet-been-to-camp-ers coming to the campout!
Hi Rachel ~ Yes, I was mentioned above by the lovely miss fiona, and have not yet been to camp either. I'm coming for 2nd session this summer, and my illustrious family is planning on going to the camp-out as well. I'm 18 and have been lurking around wiki aquireing both many wives and friends, hehehe... anywho, I'd love to talk~ e-mail me at (jadzia at nbtsc.org) if ye desire. If you have a LJ add me to your friends list (www.livejournal.com/users/moonsparkles) and I'll add you to mine... i must fly.
