How Noble We Are

Talkin' about chivalry, whether it's entirely a guy's job inventing a female version of chivalry...also nobility in general...go...

chivalry is really tender ground for me... As a Liberated Feminist i do whatever the hell i want, and i can open my own doors thank you very much. But that being said, i expect people to be chivariouse (is that a word?) to each other, regardless of gender/social standing. I am all for whoever gets to the door first being full of chivalry. -Dawn, who got off topic

I enjoy being sort of chivalrous...sometimes. I like doing little things for people. It makes me happy. Is that still chivalry, if you do it because it makes you happy? But isn't that the reason we do anything, because it makes us happy? --Emma

  • yes. we're sorry to admit this to you Emma. You were the last human optimist, but we must break your childish vision and tell you that humans do everything for selfish reasons. we are not kidding. ~the Delegation for Preserving Optimistic Mortals.

I like the ideas and morals behind chivalry. The whole idea that there's Good and Bad and Good people do Good things and Bad people do Bad things. It's nice and simple. It makes sense to me. I suppose I would like to have a KISA to ride into battle for me and strive to be Good so that I will confer my favor on him. I really just like the idea of inspiring people. Hm... I shall try to write here some other time when I'm not quite so braindead. I have a lot to say on this subject. --marina

Originally whenever it was I learned what chivalry was it was defined as something only males did/ had/ were expected to have. I think it was when I read the Alanna books by Tamora Pierce.. But there's really no reason why chivalry should only apply to males. It seems like it's just another word for being considerate of your fellow human beings, and being especially aware of how you can help others, and having the courage to do it even in difficult situations. I'm just beaming with pride, even if I manage to contain myself in hopes to not look silly, when I do chivalrous things, or whatever you want to call them. Opening doors for people, picking up things people dropped, helping someone by saying something when you know they can't find the words to say it themselves at that moment.. Basically being your own knight in shining armour, I guess. :)

I really liked that line that Dawn wrote, "I am all for whoever gets to the door first being full of chivalry..." Amen to that!
