Idea S

Do you have an idea for something? Anything at all. Share it here if you like.

As I "grow up" and it starts sinking in that some sort of work will take up many hour of my future, I start wanting to get nosey. To pick people's brains. Why do they work at their job. Does it feel like work, or like an estention of life? How did they end up in the field they're in? What are their fears about their job? What are the stresses? Where do teh rewards come from? How needed do they feel? How replacible are they? Why does/doesn't this job satisfy their needs? So. My idea is as follows. An in-depth questionair or set of interveiw questions gest made up, and whoever wants to hands them out to anyone facinating they come across. Docters, Lawyers, Mothers, Mechanics, Writers, Travelers, Hairdressers, Set designers, Childcare workers, Archeoligists, Bank tellers, Carpenders, Flag people, Assembly line workers, Letter carriers, Musicians, Buisness people . . . you get the ideaa. Next part of the process, create all teh facinating answers we get into a website. A compilation of all these veiws. Searchable by job title, training time, salery, age of worker, happiness with the job, etc. Post a copy of teh questionare up on the site too, so that other people could add their insights (Mmm, perhaps also email addys for as many of teh respondents aaas were willing, incase people had further questions). Wouldn't this be aa good resorce? I know I'd find it incredibly useful at this point in my life. More ideas . . .

  • I'd be very interested if you need any help. very, very interested. This would be a great resource, also. Ever read Working by Studs Terkel? You'd like it, I think it would be useful to have read with your questions, and idea. I'd like to do something similar on love, sometime... carrie at nbtsc.org
    • On love, ohh good idea Carrie! I only just read that two minutes ago, aand aalready my brain's baatting around ways that it'd be cool. Very appropriate thought-train for Feb 14th, no?

-Tessa, who posted the origonal idea and that went aand forgot to sign it (or (heh) fix the typos).

      • Except you can always tell when Tessa wrote it because her a key sticks -Robyn, who oughta know
        • Hey, yeah, I forgot, today's valentine's day. ;) heheh. I think it would be especially cool if it was a collection of people's thoughts on anything connected to, well, love slush and sexuality. Or maybe they should be done seperately. --Carrie
