| In A Hurry |
New poem... I'd love some feedback, as usual. ~Jasmine
Everybody's in a hurry
Leaving ashtrays full on tables
Rushing past me dropping pennies
But I don't scurry for them quickly
I'm drawing daisies in the margins
Not writing like I should
And the pennies keep on rolling
Heads up heads down inconsistently
Landing at the base of fountains
unwished upon and idle
Everybody's in a hurry
Not seeing what's outside the haze
Telling teenagers "don't worry honey
You'll see it's just a faze."
We're masking every little child
Saying "I'm sorry don't be real"
and then the mask becomes the child
we teach them to be weak and wild
and then we instill fear
'Cuz everybody's in a hurry
Using apathy and fury
Getting double mochas to wake up
(when all they need is a slap in the face)
staring at the ceiling counting sheep
wondering how they got to this place
They panic at the rain hide inside
They panic the thunder
They may melt
But I panic inside
Confide in the thunder
shouting in the rain
while everyone else wallows in their pain
I'm licking the raindrops
Lime flavored rivulets
Lime
And the gang on the corner
Peering from beneath the awning
Asking me how I am
inviting me to stay dry
And I shout fine
Because like everyone else
I'm living a lie
But not ready to die
'Cuz everyone's in a hurry
Rushing in the rush hour
Living their disturbing suburban lives
Wake up, take an upper, take a shower
Counting your frequent flier miles
On the way to a desk job
Working for the main upstairs
Some rich corporate slob
Shying away from both truths and dares
Drinking coffee and chain smoking
Impressing just who
Who knows
You're always in a hurry
You're always just barely coping
Going insane is just a vacation
You lost it hon, with your hesitation
Afraid of rising above your station
Depending on what you own
To keep your kids from getting stones
Quit believing company printouts
Read songs like a prophecy
Quit thinking religion is found in rural paper routes
Read as you slowly slow down
Slow down
