Mass Meat Production Places

Mass Meat Production Places are bad... here's why...

Now a days they're being put in small communities. The meat factories are really miserable places to work, and have a tremendous turnover rate. In a year, almost all of their staff are changed, and average time for any employee is something like three months. So there's never enough people in the rural communities to work in the factory, and the factory is always importing people from elsewhere. This leads to several problems...

1. the factories attract young single males because these are the guys willing to move into a new place to take stupid but fairly good paying jobs for short lengths of time. Most towns where large meat packing plants have been put have seen an increase in crimes, particularily alcohol related crimes. There is a town in Alberta that has trouble getting police officers to work there, because of the amount of crime... most caused by workers at the local meat factory.

2. also, a lot of immigrants end up in these jobs. While there's nothing particularily horrible about that, it ends up putting a lot of pressure on the school system.

3. Because a lot of people are moving in and out of the town, there's not a lot of real care about the town. People don't know their neighbours, and crime increases because of that too. Because people will be there just for a short while, slum areas and trailer courts tend to appear.

Then, on top of that, there's the polution and stink that comes from having a hundred thousand pigs or cows living right there! There are towns that permadently stink because of the meat packing plants and mass farming.

So, if you want to have a revolution, that's one of the problems that should be solved, at some point. Maybe put limits on the size of meat packing plants, or at least make sure that the meat packing plants have to be located in cities, where the larger population can absorb the transiant population easier. Limit the size of the farms where animals are raised, and force meat packers to haul the animals in from a ways away, so that the animals are raised over larger areas not in mass right next door to the factory.
