| Once Upon A Knute |
It’s was high noon, and the sun was burning down like a toaster oven to a pop tart. The black leather seats seemed sizzle and bake, the car didn’t have air conditioning.
Mitch slammed on the brakes, he couldn’t go through with it. The car screeched to a halt mere feet away from the edge. He stepped out and looked across the canyon. It was so beautiful. Only moments before he had been certain that he wanted to end his life in flames at the bottom of the canyon. Now he was lost in its gorgeous hugeness. But then a thought of Heather crossed his mind, and he was determined again. Yes, I can do it, he thought. How can I do anything else? I can't live without her. He turned and started back toward the car, but then a voice echoing up from the bottom of the canyon stopped him. "Hello? Is anyone up there? I need some help! I have to get out of this canyon!" Mitch turned again and peered down over the steep rock wall. A man stood there, down in the canyon bottom, looking hungry and dirty.
Mitch made a split decision and got into his car, found the highway down into the canyon, and made his way down the curvy, steep road. He reached the bottom fairly quickly (because we all know how he drives) and he drove up to the guy. He burst into tears, telling about how some evil cult of Nuns on motorcycles left him here to rot, after they got all the information out of him that they could. The guy's name was Jake.
