One Day I Will Be Me

One day I will be me. And on that day all things will fall into place, all people will understand, and I myself will smile at the sun. One day you will know how I feel right now, and instead of being sympathetic, you will show me true empathy. Years will pass, and I will fall in love, have a little daughter. We will drink chai tea out of rose covered teacups together in the garden. The speaker becomes the narrator, sitting on the sidelines, watching life pass by, watching the girl sit and type silently on her keyboard. The girl who strives for perfection in everything, every day. This girl has a name, but we won't use it today, instead we will refer to her as we know her best, you. Sitting there, day after day, hour upon hour, typing thoughts into words, converting feelings to sentences, searching for a fulfillment that always seems just out of reach. You laugh at jokes that you don't find funny, smile although inside your crying.
