a warm squirmy mass of NBTSCers - an essential part of camp life.

people pies, huh?
People piles are the best way to both fall asleep and wake up. Sleeping in them is usually a bit uncomfy, but it's warm, and hell if there isn't good energy to sleep in. *grins* People piles rock, and they're one of the many reasons I love campers and camper-types and CAMP.
well, i think they rock. they keep you warm and happy. and if you wake up uncramped and unsick, then you should be named the eighth wonder of the world. yup.
I wake up slowly, sensing before i open my eyes the presence of friends
around me, and opening eyes slowly a small world cystalizes of arms, legs,
blankets, jackets used as pillows, journals shoved under beds, water
bottles, kleenex boxes, papers, food particles. I love to be the first
awake, to lie and listen to them breath, watch the lovers curl in the
corner, the friends protectly sleeping, those who sleep with backs turned
yetpressed tight for warmth and comfort, the strange tangled messages we
make after 5 hours sleep.
The back is taken to hell, arms acheing, tied in knots from sleeping on a
hard floor, a kitchen floor, on top of stuffed animals, gravel, nothing at
all. I wake slowly the muscles in my arms trace out the shape of his back,
the cardboard box i slept next to, the rumpled blankets.
Sleeping alone afterwards seems so simple, no negotations of pillows, hips
turning, breathing space, no sublties of who you sleep next to and who you
do not, no shuffle in the middle of the night, when you wake up in the dark
and realize the next person is awake too, and in the dark you quietly talk,
mutter, giggle, get up and go find chocolate or lie under the moon and be
silent.
In the morning we stumble awake, bleary eyed, offering a hand up off the
floor, a race for the bathroom, someone starts water for breakfast, turn on
music, the gental teasing of those still in bed, tantalizing hints of freash
pancakes or tea to bribe them out of bed. The discussions that follow
around the stove, hands wraped around cups, (/what are we going to do
today?/), as we watch each other teasting trying, (/are you okay?/) the
careful breakdown and privacy of people living in only 3 rooms (/do you two
need some time alone?/) and the days that pass later sitting in parks
catching leaves, laughing, walking down the streets 8 people long arms
wrapped firmly in place, a declarations of our adoration of each other and
the night we slept in a people pile.

- I love you Dawn.

P.S. The best part of people piles is not the sleeping, but waking up. Absolutely.
theres something confurting about waking up sleeping on somones lap with another person sleeping well hugging you. you peel your eyes open and before you know your actualy awake you already know that your loved. theres a serten unspokon trust thats involved i trust you enough to hold me even when i'm sleeping i love it and live off it. they really do love you more then anything and everything from the wild flowers, to poetry, to hot tea, to geek conversations, to warm mud between your toes. it feels so good you can take it home. people slowy wake up and the energy is normaly mello. camper hugs feel sorta like people piles exsept they only last a few minuets not like 6 hours of sleep.
the best part about people piles is knowing they love you before you wake up
