| Potato Cannons |
I think Potato cannons are the most commin type of home made cannons that I know of, and the simplest too.
they are pretty safe, (concidering that you are producing an explosion, thus fireing a projectile, all in something you can hold with two hands).
now the basic idea is, you have a piece of 3/4" pipe, about a foot long, on one end, it is open (this is the end of the barrel where the potato chunk is shoved in, on the other end of the pipe, is a T with an addaptor, for a screw on cap on one part of the T, on the other part of the T is a cap, with a small hole drilled in it, where you put the wire, for one of those bar-bacue grill igniters (push butten sparker, that you get at a hardwear store) now we are going to asume that you are competent enough to assemble this properly, and make sure that it is safe to use, befor you try doing anything with it, right?
for a fuel, you can use all kinds of things, hair spray is most commin, though, it dose leave a residue, that will keep the ignitor from working after a while, butane should work too (from a lighter, or a lighter refill) gun powder, or something else like gasoline, is not a good idea, for you might blow your self up, and then we would miss you.
- Propane, Man... that's what we used in Montana. As long as you only give it a couple second shot and then mix it with the air, it works really well. Except for when we blasted the end off of the cannon... that wasn't so cool.
