Ingnition of a substance[1] caused by a localised heat-increasing reaction between the oxidant and the fuel and not involving the addition of heat from an outside source.

[1] such as oily rugs or hay or people according to Calvin and Hobbes.

spontaneous combustion is: sitting quietly. armchair, calm sun on my back. then your voice, that edge you have. you make me remember. why i hate you. why i get scared. why i want to see blood on the floor. and suddenly I'm shaking. that edge you have cuts me. orange fire blood burning slicing ripping seething i hate suddenly. my brain explodes. and i am left to get cut by sharpnel. -nay (hope you don't mind a random posting by a random person. but i was inspired)
