| Storrys About Ryland |
When I was visiting ryland last febuary he was buisily reading the McMaster car catalog. this is a three inch thick catalog full of STUFF. So as I'm sitting there reading calvin and hobbes, ryland turns to me wearing his "Ouh, check THIS out" face and sais 'Titanium rods!'. To make a long story short, we tried figuring out what a titanium chainmail shirt would cost to make. So we stripped some copper wire and made rings to make some chainmail to see how much metal you would need. After many pressure bruised fingers and cool revelations about chainmail and it's making we figured out and sleeveless shirt with no hood will run you around $415, while one with a hood is about $615. fun:)

Camp Season last year we dyed his braids different colours. The morning he took his hair down and started brushing it, we realized the potential for delight and promply collect the hair (masses of it!) and he showed us how to twist it into rope.
There we were in our PJs in Eugene sitting in Tessa and Robyns living room making rope from his hair, letting the sun shine in on us.

Heh heh. I was sleeping at Ari's place after camp and before Theory, and unschoolers just piled anywhere because there wasn't much room for fifteen of us in the small apartment. I went to sleep early, on a big mattress, and when I woke up I saw Ryland next to me. He opens his eyes, turns to me, and says: "So, come here often?" And I hit him. But it was all in good fun! *laughs* Silly boy.
I think i would have to say Ryland is my best camp friend. We didn't talk much or anything at camp but we've had some really great conversations on chat and i feel like i can teel him anything.
Love ya' Ry,
Ruth
My story about Ryland is at session one '00. I'm kinda walking around looking miserable, and it's like 1am or something and Ryland walks by and he's like all wrapt up in this blanket and he stops and puts half the blanket around me and we talk and that made me feel sooo much better. -Emily O.
after the power shuffle first session I wasn't feeling so great. I was going around hugging people and everything, and Ryland comes up and hugs me, and out of nowhere I just feel like I have to talk. So I asked him if I could talk to him, and we just sat in a corner and he listened to me for as long as I needed to talk, and gave me good advice, and was very very nice. Love you Ryland.
And a funny story about Ryland... Ryland, Kim W, my brother and I were playing scrabble, and Ryland put out the word 'Quoin' and says "Look it up." So we do... and it's in the dictionary, along with a handy-dandy diagram. Ryland just sat there looking smug... until I asked him if he had known it was in the dictionary. He said "No." Funny guy...
[At session two 2000] NickV and I were cuddling on the couch in the dining hall, and Ryland comes up and says "don't do anything I wouldn't do". I found this highly amusing. ~erin
During second session, the advisee group we were in went on a trust walk, which was amusing since I had done one just last week and actually had an idea of where I was that time. :) But, anyway..Ryland was behind me, and he gave me the best shoulder massage while we walked. - Emma
Dude, there are so many good storrys about Ryland...oh, I know my favorite!
Ryland once conned me out of my brownie, my delicious, non-vegetable brownie, by giving me the best puppy eyes...that boy can turn on the charm, I tell you. After about five seconds of puppy eyes, I sighed and gave him half of it, which made Rickedy pretty whiny 'cause he couldn't talk me out of any more of it..(laugh)

Ryland.... ho, boy. This could take a while. I remember being kind of intimidated at first, when he showed up at my house with Lotus and Ali. I also remember him putting up *VERY* well with us braiding his hair and being otherwise obnoxious on the train to session 1, 2000. I also remember him posing with the Snoopy statue in front of the water tower *laughs* -JessicaSkater
Ok so me and Ry were in town looking for fun stuff to do when someone gets the brilliant idea to stop at Axe man-AKA the coolest surplus store in the twin cities and possibly ever. So we head in and shuffle through plastic doll heads, used speaker cones, squeak toys, beer hats and a myriad of other well will you look at that s when I look aver to Ry and notice that he s practically glowing! I ve never seen any one so excited to see a three-inch ball baring! When we got to the nuts and bolts isle we proceeded to open EVERY single door as he explained what everyone was used for, why copper from steel, what that little indent meant, why any one would want a three foot nail. It was great! I ve never seen the boy talk so much the whole time I ve known him. We must have spent 20 minutes in the capacitors isle, did you know they have them the size of shoeboxes and pin heads? If you ever want to get a kick start on your whosets and whatests, not to mention see Ryland jump around more excited then an 8 year old in a candy store, go surplus eh?!
- Oh thats great!!! I couldn't help but laugh while i read this.

I can't think of any one story i want to write on here, i was just thinking that he kind of melds into every story of the party i have. ryland has to be the best cuddler around. it was like he could tell when i was feeling down and was always there with an arm for me. i think one of the cutest things was seeing ryland wearing a big golden bow i got on a birthday present, around his head, and carrying a big paper rose around with him. of course we had no choice but to dub him Sir Ryland of the Bow.

I remember after the session 1, 2000 powershuffle, I was feeling pretty numb. Walking around, hugging lots of people and taking lots of people's pain, but not doing much about my own except letting it sit there, kinda lumpy and dull. I remember getting to Ryland, and giving him a hug, and feeling myself just melt. He was so strong and sterdy, it suddenly felt like it was ok to let go of my own hurt. That was one really reasuring long hug.
