Next is the spread, there are so many spreads out there but the one I use the most is called Past, Present, and future, you put down three groups of three cards, the first group represents the Past, the secound group represents the present, and the third group represents the future.
The best way to do it is to read the cards as often as you can or wan't to, and everyone well have there own interpretation of the cards but the more you do it there better you will be.
If anyone has anything to add I would be really happy to not be the only one rambling on, or if anyone has any questions, email me or better yet visit me! I really would love to do readings for anyone who would like it.
Well I hope that made sense. Katana
Since this is one of the only things I can geek about with some authority, (even though I'd still like to learn a lot more about it) I shall commence geeking!
The first tarot deck I had was the Rider-Waite deck, which is your basic, clasic tarot deck. I was really interested in it, but memorizing the meanings of the cards, their reversed meanings, meanings when combined with other cards, etc, etc, seemed so complex and time consuming, and I always had the sneaking suspicion when I did a reading that I wasn't doing it "right," and that there was some huge thing I was totally missing. So I sort of gave up on it. Then at Lotus' Halloween party 2001, I watched Kat E. do some tarot readings (she did it in a totally different, much more intuitive, spontaneous way), which TOTALLY inspired me. So now I have the Daughters of the Moon tarot deck, and don't really worry about precise card meanings, just say whatever comes into my head when I look at the card during a reading. I think the bottom line with Tarot is that you need to do what works for you.
Anyway. The spread that I use is a bit different from Mical's. It's called the Celtic Cross, and uses 10 cards. I'll try to describe it, though it's really something you have to see to understand. The descriptions below are basically the ones I got from my tarot book, but with a bit of my own personal interpretation added.
-Card #1- is in the center. It represents the heart of the situation.
-Card #2- is right next to card 1, slightly overlapping. It represents an
opposing or supporting force, or sometimes something that you need to do or
get over in the situation.
-Card #3- is directly below the first two cards. It represents things below
the surface, the root of the situation, or how you may feel unconciously
about the issue.
-Card #4- is to the left of the first two cards. It represents your past,
something from your past that's influencing your present, a force that is
moving out of your life, or something that you may need to give up or let go
of.
-Card #5- is directly above the first two cards. It represents how you may
conciously feel about the situation, or an alternate outcome to the
situation.
-Card #6- is to the right of the first two cards. It represents your
future, a force that is moving into your life, or something you need to open
yourself to, or embrace.
This circle of cards is basically a snapshot of your life at this moment in time. To the right of these cards, is the staff, (start at the bottom with card #7, and work straight up) which goes into a bit more detail about your situation.
-Card #7- is the bottom card of the staff. It represents /you/ right now.
What you're feeling, what you're going through.
-Card #8- is directly above card 7. It represents your general environment,
or the "other": other people in your life, perhaps other's expectations of
you, etc.
-Card #9- is directly above card 8. I usually interpret this as card of
guidence: something you need to do, or else avoid doing.
-Card #10- is directly above card 9. This is the outcome of your situation
if all energies continue as they are currently going.
Hope that's helpful.

Question. What deck(s) do you own? I have the Mary Hanson-Roberts deck. It's quite good for me as many of the pictures evoke an intuitive reaction.
- Naela
I have the Scapini deck, I find the pictures really work well for me, and it's shiny.

Here are some cards from the deck I am working on: http://www.nbtsc.org/jesse/tarot.html
