Teenage Liberation Handbook

The TLH: for a lot of us this book started it all. So why do we never talk about it?! I wanna know what you guys think about it. How have your views changed since you first read it? Had you ever heard of unschooling before? Did you disagree with some things? Do you disagree with some things now that you didn't before? -Ren

This is going to sound a tad strange coming from someone who enjoys Grace's work as much as I, but it's not the most interesting book to me; For some reason, I don't find it terribly inspiring, and simply resource-book for resources I amready am good at gathering. Perhaps it's that my family has always unschooled (ecen while we were in school, we were doing it, we just didn't realize it until afterward) that the value of the TLH wasn't so great in my family. --Aredridel

I have a confesion, I've never read TLH. I've tried, I love the little story at the begining, but I've never been to school so all the resources on how to get out (based on american facts anyway) just don't teach me much. of course, that hasn't stopped me from recomending it to every single school kid I know... :) -Miranda

The part of the TLH that gives me the biggest kick is scanning through the index for the names of unschoolers I know and than reading what they wrote when they were ten, twelve, fourteen. Great fun! Like Ari said, most of the content of the book isn't that earth-shaking to me, coz I was raised along it's basic preincipals anyway. I have tons of respect for it though, just from seeing the changes it's brought about in other people's lives. -Tessa

  • This book pulled me out of public school depression and frustration adn sent me waltzing or is it spinning? down the most INCREDIBLE paths of self created adventure and discovery. My dreams are coming true. And that is infinitely more rewarding than a report card dripping with A's. What can I say? Grace's book is my giant humungous mantra and the sweetest dessert in my book collection. And Grace herself is darling too. but that is more for the AllSoRad page ~Plane Girl Sarah

The TLH got me out of school misery! I stayed up all night reading it. So many thanks to Grace! (I know I haven't actually been to camp yet, but I'm going this year...)-Jessica, Victor's friend

TLH is the reason why i became an unschooler! i was on an anarchy site and i saw a link that said 'abolish schools.' me, being an american teenager trained to hate learning, of course clicked on it. and there i found a link to amazon where i saw TLH...and i automatically fell in love! i ordered the book, convinced my parents, and now i officially don't go to school. i thank grace so much for her work! it's also pretty cool cuz my dad's new g-friend unschools her kids too, so all his questions go to her. and damn is she good at convincing ppl!! ~kymi~
