Why Was I Never Told

Why was I never told....

....why was I never told that a hundred years ago if an impoverished immigrant family arrived in Canada with a daughter whose eyesight wasn't good, that daughter might be taken from them and exported back to her origional country. And the family, which probably spent every last penny on their trip over, would not be able to afford to go back home with the daughter, but would have to stay working in that new land, until they had enough money to send someone over to look for the girl? Why was I not told that our government policy was to (almost) orphans out of people who had some slight disability?

(go ahead... add your own little stories here.... what kind of things amazed you when you first heard them? What kind of things awed you or inspired you? What horrified you? What were you amazed that you'd never found out sooner?)

Why was i never told that cities smell different? That languages are as alive as the countries they spring from, that communication has almost nothing to do with words but how you hold your hands?

Why was i never told that You Will Love People and sometimes they will Love You Back and sometimes They Wont. or they Will and thats when the problem will begin... -Dawn

Why was I never told that life is fair? Or that eating dessert is good for me? Or to talk to strangers? --marina

Why was i never told that it's ok to cry? why was i never told how to flirt properly with boys and that love hurts more then my knife woonds on my wrists. why was i never told that some people hate gays why was i never told that when i kissed my friends goodbye that they would go through hell and back. why didnt they tell me that its wrong to starve your mind? --Heather
