| Workshops For N B T S C2000 |
ok, i have sent in the forms and my bliss page, so it's definite. i'm doing calvinball and a singing workshop. calvinball's just gonna be unstructured... i am going to have masks though. if anyone who's planning to come to that could bring some black cloth that would be great. or not, i will try to bring some. (with my $27 plus extra money!!! but that's another story)
the singing thing is going to be really fun. i'm going to do basic warmups and stuff, and then i'll do some rounds and two/three part stuff. just tonight i learned this really great two part funky version of 'amazing grace'. it's so great. so come to my workshops! ;-)
-marina 20 days til camp!!!
- Yay calvinball! I'll bring a mask. That was alot of fun last year. -Kathleen
- sounds good, marina... I'll definately come to the calvinball one, but I can't sing, so that's out. -JessicaSkater
Well, that's basically what my singing workshop is going to be about, How To Sing. or rather, how to sing on key a greater percentage of the time without killing your voice. hey, that's a good title... i should remember that... so come! have fun! be the official drummer! marina
- Sounds good... I'll come to both of them, then! Do you know the 'Barges' descant thingy?? I'm not sure exactly what the style is called, but it's where the words for both parts are the same, but they're sung to slightly different tunes... let me know if you know it, because if you don't, I could teach it to you and you can decide whether to use it (this is the one thing that I'm really good at singing, becaue I can sing low, and it makes it sound *better* hehe- I've got a very low voice... it always surprises people when they hear me talk/ sing/ yell/ whatever) -JessicaSkater
Well, I was going to do a henna/mehandi workshop, but that's out... I'm sure most of you know the whole bloody story... so now I'm doing a Creative Pop Drinking Workshop... I'm gonna' show a bunch of people all the creative ways there are to drink pop... Eryn gave me the idea while a bunch of the neighborhood kids were over, and we were all punching holes in the tops of our cans and shaking them up so that they spray everywhere... it's *supposed* to go in your mouth, but it doesn't always work... and actually, I'm only thinking about it... I probably won't. -JessicaSkater
- I don't think they have soda machines there so you would probably have to bring it all...keep that in mind. ~Erin
Shippy and I are going to lead a Pounce workshop! Whee!
Robyn
I have an an as yet vague idea for a discussion on independence, moving, the transition between dependence and independence, holding on to childhood while exploring adulthood, interdependence with people in different stages of life, that sort of stuff. It may end up as more of a brainstorme than a workshop, it may not happen at all, who knows. My motives are mostly selfish, I'm in the middle of packing to move right now, adn I'd love to hear other people's thoughts, advice, storys, anything about transitions in general even ... oh this is getting vague. ~tessa
I've had two good ideas so far, and i cant really decide which one i want to do more.. (maybe one for each session?...) If any of you have imput as to which one would be better, speak up eh?
- Circle dancing
- Open floor discussion of the unschooler community and why it is that we are all so gosh darn cool and yet intimidate each other so very terribly much
-Dawn
- Hey Dawn, your open floor unschooler community discussion sounds a lot like my idea for a cob castle discussion... you think we could collaborate on this? I'm not sure how, but we have some time to figure it out :) ~Eryn
- I think that a discussion of the unschooler community sounds like a fantastic idea. I've been struggling with that for a while. It would be great to talk about unschooling as an unschooler and not "I am a homeschooler, no my parents do not teach me, I like it a lot". :) marina
- Having aleady touched on both of these topics with you, and having found them both rather addictive, I say yay for everything, I can't wait for whatever happens! ~tessa
I really don't know what I'll do. :) I'll probably end up leading a stretching workshop, whether scheduled or un...if I can get anyone to come. I wonder if anyone would show up at a sewing/clothes designing dicussion or just give me lots of tips. :) A choreography party would be fun, too..
- Emma
yes, yes,yes,yes,yes,yes.... what session, though?? *please say session 1... wait- I'll go check what session you're going to*. I wanna do both of those! I *love* choreography!! -JessicaSkater
Yaay! :) I'm going to both sessions, so I'll get to meet you! The choreography idea was inspired by the modern improv. classes (all three of them! *laughs*) I took this summer. They were cool. I made a vacuum cleaner dance. - Emma
Oooh, group choreography sounds very cool. That's somethign I'd enjoy exploring. ~tessa, who is filled out her camp forms today, and is getting enthusiastic over all things NBTSC at the moment.
[Moved in from the other page]
Samara and I, (carsie,) are planning to lead a discussion about self-mutilation. We have helped eachother through a tremendous amount in this area and thought it'd be cool to try and help a few others while we're at it. so it's still pretty hazy, but basically we would get together a group of people who have injured themselves, know people who injure themselves, or are just interested in discussing the subject, and talk and share stories and such. No one will be forced to share anything they aren't comfortable sharing... if it goes well i'm sure a lot will be learned just from hanging out and listening to what other people have to say on the subject. we will probably end up bringing quotes/poetry/book recommendations to share. so yeah, show up, listen, share, be open and try not to trigger. we definitely want to have a welcoming environment that doesn't promote self injury... but on the other hand, if your attitude is something along the lines of "self mutilation is sick/stupid/wrong," please keep it to yourself. trust me, it doesn't help.
so... yeah, i've rambled quite enough i suppose.
~carsie~
Actually I already made a page (WorkShop) to talk about workshops. You might want to post there too because there's already a few posts and people know where it is.
Anyway. Yeah.... I'd actually thought of leading a discussion in self-injury as well, so it's cool that other people have thought of it too. You're going to both sessions, right Carsie? I'll be at second session, so maybe we could do it together :-) ~Eryn
yeah... i'll be at both... and samara is only going to first session. so i'd definitely be up for co-leading it at both sessions. i was actually thinking of asking around for someone to co-lead with me at session two.
write me to collaborate?

~carsie~
Hey Carsie! Sorry, I didn't see this message before, but anyway, you've got mail ~Eryn
Yep, we did those workshops. A lot of people had stuff to say, and though it was slow to start it turned out well. Maybe we'll collaborate next year, who knows. -wanderlust
I haven't decided yet for sure, but I'll definetly do We're All So Rad, which generally takes a whole afternoon. i also might do one of the following:
* poetry sharing thing
* creative journals/correspondence
* self portraits
* speaking shakespeare (iambic pentameter and beyond!)
-summer
- Hey Summer, the idea that has been the most appealing to me so far has been some kind of poetry/journaling workshop, because I have a whole lot to say about both of them, so we could maybe do something like that together. Also, I could help you out with that one about speaking Shakespeare, because I know a lot about iambic pentameter and how the words and sounds in words are also used to shape the way you can say the words, and things like that, and I'm sure I could learn a lot from other people willing to share on the subject, too! Also I might help out with a swing or lindy hop workshop, because I'm pretty positive there will be quite a few of those! -courtney
- I was thinking along the journaling/letter writing sort of lines for a workshop too... A big collaborative workshop could be really cool, if we all brought ideas to contribute. Especially if lots of people brought their journals to sort of show at a distance stuff they've drawn or doodled, or the way they write, and to possibly read things to eachother and talk about the different ways we've used our journals... reanna
- Speaking Shakespeare sounds really interesting. :) - Emma
- I am going to go ahead and put down the poetry/journaling discussion on my forms, just so I can have something there. Anyone who wants to help me run it, though, please feel free! Anyone who feels they have something to say on it and also wouldn't mind starting things. Because it will be mostly a free-for-all discussion, but there's got to be people to start the discussion :) -courtney
Hellllo ok, I signed the camp form, I guess I really have to do this!what's up with the workshops? does anyone want 2 plan one together ahead of time?? let me no if your an artsy musicy kind of shy person. ;} Berly
~hey berly... i'm definitely an artsy musicy kind-of-shy person. what sort of wkshop were you thinking about? write me? (pixieforsatan at hotmail.com)
