Your Journeys

Where have you been? How did you get there? Tell us about your past journeys! Tell us about your future endevours!!

Im just back from a Journey! I spent what was supposed to be 5 days, but became 4 days, hiking in Tonkwin Vally. It is the most bear infested area in all of Jasper park, so most of my energy since thursday night (4 days) has been devoted to a very simple concept

  • Do Not Get Eaten By A Bear

Which is rather simple when you think about it. I hiked out 23 km today, through mud rain snow sleet and acres of horse sh*t. The hiking trail is also a horse trail, there was freash horse sh*t everywhere, god it was awful and amazing at the same time. It snowed, it hailed, it rained, it was sunny, it was windy, id do it again in a heart beat. We camped at the base of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, right next to a beautiful crystal clear lake. I drank (treated) water from streams, and ate goo out of a pot. I saw waterfalls and moss covered rocks. I washed my dishes in snow banks and sang songs on July 2nd as it snowed all around me. I went with Shippy and our two really amazing Ranger leaders, so i had an awesome time. Its weird to be back in civilization. I dont have to watch weather all the time and guess if it is going to rain or not. I can eat food with my hands. I dont have to watch everywhere for a bloody Grizzly Bear. I will be warm when i sleep tonight. I love being home, but i love being away/ -Dawn

I'll write more here later, but for now I'll do lists :)

Journeys I've been on:

  • Taking the train to camp and back last year. I traveled from New Haven to Eugene Oregon... for about half the trip I traveled with other campers, which was a lot of fun! I saw the Montana rockies, the Dakota plains, the stark beauty of the desert rocks in part of Washington. It's amazing how a landscape changes so much.
  • I visited Dawn and Shippy in Edmonton, Alberta in April 2000. Very nice place, although I didn't see all of it. I can't say that traveling was very exciting... I traveled by plane. I like traveling by train better because you see more... it's not just getting from one place to another.

Future journeys:

  • My 2 1/2 month trip around the US and Canada... I'm leaving in three weeks!!! I'm setting up an online version of my travel journal, which I'll update while I'm on the road. WanderlustInMotion!

  • Trip to Ireland
  • Trip to the Bahamas or Hawaii
  • Traveling all over Europe, Asia, and the world
