Greenwich Mean Time
Greenwich a district of London where the international dateline is situated, and "Mean time" beaing the "natural time", usually called LMT to avoid confusion with GMT. For 6 months a year GMT is the local time for the UK. During the summer the UK uses BST or British Summer time which is GMT-1.
- Actually the International Date line is in the middle of the Pacific, half way around the world from Greenwich.-Lorin
For reference, the American timzones (not taking DaylightSavingsTime into account) are a certain number of hours away from GMT:
- Alaska is GMT minus 9 or 10.
- The Canadian Maritimes are GMT minus 4
That's it... daylight times (Change the middle letter to a "D" from the "S" and the offset is one closer to GMT... CDT is GMT-5).
