| Why The East Coast Is Better |
"Go West, young man!" Um, we don't think so.
We east coast unskoolers and staffers and other folk hereby declare that all states are not created equal, that one American coast, namely that of the East, is by and away infinitely superior to those other homeschooling abodes. Ha, Texass! Take this, Oregon! We have got you ripped!
Why the East Coast Is The Infinitely Superior Location for Unschoolers, People In Pursuit of Liberation, and Those With Taste
- We have much splendorous nature, including the Berkshire, Helderberg, Catskill, Ozark, and Blue Ridge Mountains; the Mohawk, Hudson, Connecticut and Charles Rivers; and lots and lots of trees.
- We have lots of marvelous urban areas, from small cities like New Haven, CT or Albany, NY (yeah, Albany!) to real
uh, I mean big cities like New York.
- Speaking of New York... We have New York! Nice try, San Francisco!
- We have the following awesome wonders of the world: Hershey Factory, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Disney World (which, I'm sorry, kicks Disneyland's ass to Pluto; I've been to both), better apples, and Woodstock (where I hail from! Hoorah!).
- We spawned Ani DiFranco, Frank Sinatra, my sister, and Natalie Goldberg!
- Our Albany (NY) does not smell like industrial sewage. (Ahem, Oregonians.)
- When those Europeans set out to explore America, did they go to Texas? Did they go to Oregon? We don't think so! They came here![1]
- And when those Europeans snuffed out all those pesky folks who were already living here (the nerve!), and put up buildings, and set up a Goverment, and elected Presidents, where did they choose to live? Was it... San Rafael? Was it... Corvallis? We don't think so! They came here!
- We know how to make a mean burrito! (infinite sarcasm. i have been to san francisco, after all.
wb)
- Our pizza is infinitely superior (very true!).
- Our ground does not shift beneath our feet!
- You may have more authentic hippies (I do concede)... but they all came from here!
- We have Eireann, Jessica, Jake, April, Emily O., the Lydias, Athena, Emerie, Becca, the Comptons, Laura, Carsie, Dian, and all those other lovely folk who make more of an effort to get to camp than all you mellow hippies!
- An aside to Canadians: When we say "A-boot", we are generally referencing footwear!
- Even the sun agrees: the east coast is the best! Where does it first bestow its light? Here!
- And a final thought for the Texans: We didn't spawn George W. Bush!
Come purge your sins! Come climb our trees! Come eat a real bagel! Come to the coast that's best!
The EAST!

Ok, no, sorry...WE have the best Mexican food! - Emma
- Are you guys kidding? WE in California (or at least southern california) have the best mexican food!! And the best hippies! Well... maybe not in Santa Barbara. But in San Francisco and Berkeley...!

(you knew we were going to argue with you :P )
- Marina is totally right. California has, by far, the best Mexican food. I mean, it's basically authentic! There are so many Mexicans here (Being a GOOD thing). And yeah, hippies are born and bred on the west coast. Get your facts straight yo! -Zen
- I agree with Marina. San Francisco has the best hippies. ~Jekissa
I myself, am half Mexican.. the best mexican food is in Mexico. so shut ya traps and go on about how great the east coast is! I personally think it's the best! we have realistic weather! woohoo! and New York pizza is the absolute BEST! and I mean, c'mon.. an 8 mile island that has several million people on it.. what could be better then that? and to think.. a place with woods is only about 2 hours away. it doesn't get any better then that. -Lydia ®
Oh... hey, the East Coast has another thing: it has the BEST time zone!!
-Luke
More Arguments from Marina
Ok, I'm sorry, but I am so tired about hearing how awful earthquakes are on the west coast! I have lived here my entire life, and I've been awake for maybe 2 teeny earthquakes and slept through a couple more. From what I've heard, blizzards inhibit regular life more and strike way more often on the east coast than earthquakes do on the west coast. Nyah!
- Nyah nyah!

So, how about proving our superiority with an EastCoastCamp? What say you? -Emerie
Okay, I'm sorry but Disney world is so NOT on the East Coast. It's in the middle somewhere. -Zen
[1] Yeah, yeah, but THEN where did they go? They went...WEST! And they SETTLED there! - Emma
