Why take over Zimbabwe?
I mean, I know I'm not the MOST knowledgable person on the planet about this, but shouldn't Zimbabwe be governed by its people? I'm not saying it's perfect: they have huge AIDS and homophobia problems among a lot of other tragic things, but you've got to respect the revolution the Zimbabweans had in the 60s (they were the first colony to break free of Great Britian without its consent since the USA). The freedom fighters were these guerilla fighters who lived in the forests and braved all kinds of hardships for their people, to escape the legacy of Cecil Rhodes and his maniacal legacy of cultural destruction.
I met a man who fought in that war. Most men of his age did. He is a master musician, and it was his job to communicate with the village people to get supplies for the fighters. About every week or so, he'd slip down into the village, and play his mbira and sing for the villagers. In his songs were encoded messages about what the troops needed, (coded because a Shona song seems harmless enough to British survielence). One day, the British found a stash of food in the woods that the villagers had hidden for the fighters, and poisoned it. The fighters sent down their messenger with a sad song about how "Okra makes the hunters sick". Then the villagers knew that they had to find a new place to hide the food.
- er... well, most of the list on WeWantARevoLuTioN was suggested by two different conversations I've had, one at NBTSC and one on IRC last night... I forget who suggested Zimbabwe but the reason was something like America's too big to control directly and we want a smaller country... most of it's toungue in cheek.
