| IRC |
One of the neater chat methods out there. Every operating system (including many calculators) can get online and chat this way... and most (Macs excepted) have great programs available to do so with. Faaar better than ICQ, one of the two most evil[0] chat programs out there.
NBTSC has it's own IRC server, that's castle.nbtsc.org, or irc.wondermill.com if Castle is down.
Our IRC Server has a few channels (sometimes called "Chat Rooms" by AOLers), the main one is #NBTSC we also have a #Parents channel, for those older folks who don't wish to embarress they're kids (not that we don't like parents on #NBTSC or anything), and #Couch for those more interesting conversations, where you want a smaller group of people who are more interested in the curent topic.
and a #GeekCouch for people who want to listen in on conversations of a geeky sort, or people who want to be free to start those sort of conversations, without being shoed away.
But how does all this work? how do I get it? I wanna get on IRC!
- Go get mIRC from http://www.mirc.com/ or search for Ircle if you're on a Mac. Then log into the server "castle.nbtsc.org"... That's it!

hey, go write your nick in IRCNickNames
I often sit on IRC, wondering why I'm there. I see people I'd like to talk to... but am too shy. I can't tell... they're not talking much in the main room... could they be talking more in some private messages... or perhaps, just perhaps, could they also be sitting there wishing that someone would talk to them?
Are there other things that IRC could stand for?

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you've got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
All those night when you've got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel
Hung the cat up by it's tail;
And your third fiance didn't show;
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.
Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee's dead;
The morning's looking bright;
And your shrink ran off to Europe,
And didn't even write;
And your husband wants to be a girl;
Be glad there's one place in the world
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to go where people know,
People are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.
Cheers

It is not! At least, not nearly as evil as Microsoft or AOL. I like ICQ. But I do agree that IRC is better! :) *~Eryn
- Guess who owns ICQ... AOL! See? Told you it was evil.[1]
- Okay, okay. But I can talk to my friends on there, so I don't care :) [2] *~Eryn
[1]observer sits quietly in corner wondering how long before there's a triple
bullet
[2] another observer wonders if there's a seperate symbol for quadruple bullets like there is for the first three..[3]
[3] Well, add another asterisk and it adds another level of bulletting... not really a separate symbol, but, yeah... (Ari)
