CHSPE

California High School Proficiency Exam. Supposedly ridiculously easy and ridiculously long. Also supposedly nessesary to do anything. *Marina grrs at the school system and buracracy in general*

(their official web-site)

I took it when I was 15, and passed after perhaps four years of not being interested, and therefore not learning anything in school. By what margin, I'm not sure, they don't tell you your score. It's pass or fail. Basically its writing an essay or two, and solving word problems, and basic math equations, all of which seemed pretty easy to me at the time.

The CHSPE only tests you on English and math. You have to write one or two essays. The really Evil thing is that they grade on a curve, which means there isn't a fixed score for passing...you just have to be the average or above. Sick, huh? ~Rosie (who still hasn't taken her CHSPE)

Its really easy... Questions like:

27.) What color is the standard american school bus?

     a.)blue
     b.)twenty-five cents
     c.)yellow
     d.)all of the above

anyway, I passed, and so did all my friends. I don't see how its equivelent to 4 years of high school.

That seems to pretty much sum it up. It's one 30 min essay and 100 multiple choice questions. Stupidly easy test that apperantly tests you on everything you would've learned in 4 years of high school. Boy am I glad I skipped that! One of the very nice side benifits of it is you no longer need a work permit to get a job. I think that alone is enough to justify taking the stupid test. With just a work permit you can't work during school hours, if you could even get a work permit. -Kathleen

here's mine and my friend chelsie's favorite CHSPE question-- (note: it's pronounced Chess-PEE. hehe:)

What's 100% of 32?

(mari)

  • the most aggravating question I saw -- what is the most *negative* term?
    • imaginative
    • daydreaming
    • thoughtful
    • fanciful.

i think that's pretty damn awful. --RoyaBoya

wow. if it's that easy, then i am sooo gonna take it.

i wanna take it too! i can't stand high school life! Diana pure451 at yahoo.com

  • It might just be the best $50 you've ever spent... (Hee hee, I sound like a commercial. ) Seriously, next time I go to the library I'm going to get a bunch of practice tests that they have there and carry them around with me from now on. I meet up with folks who really need to take the test and folks who just don't understand how dang easy it is!!! ---Mari
