| In Need Of A Nickname |
Alright, so a lot of people on here have nicknames and.....we don't have any :( Isn't that sad? So we need your help! We are posting our names here and if you have any idea's please post. Also if you would like a nickname put your name on here and maybe someone will give you a nickname.
(Emma says if you want an interesting other name alias type thing or just need names for fictional characters or whatever, try searching http://www.babynames.com )
Franny has many nicknames. Franny is a nickname since her real name is Frances. She will also respond to Fran, Franfran, Franban, Franny Banany, Francesca, Cesca, Parsley, Frandis, Francie or just about anything else you want to call her.
Rachael Terryn Wordhouse-Dykema would like some nickname ideas...
- ica personally likes Rach, Other half, etc. etc. Ooh, and... what was it... something else. I'm sky girl, right? what are you? I should call you Bunny. Because of those bunny ears you wear. Hmm... I will come up with other things too.
ica
My current aliases are (excluding family names which are numerous, ridiculous and undignified): Rosemary, Rosie, and (sometimes) Rose. (But only if you vary it with my other names.) These get boring sometime. Any ideas to make my name more interesting?
Meow! I need one! < g > Or, I'd like one at least. I'm Maggie, other friends call me Butterfly...but who wants a recycled nickname? Down with the old, I say. ~Maggie
Anagrams make fun nicknames. I've been fiddling with them lately, and have appeared on IRC as rainma, amnira, narmia... zack came up with saniar somem using my first and last name, and jessica witchbaby came up with amnira ladderfin ossem using my middle name too. fun shtuff.
I think I need a nickname to! so get crackin' people, find me one! I have no imagination of my own so I need help! I need help in more ways then one, really.....
(wouldn't it be odd if I didn't put my name down here?)
-Candra
Heather Sara MacLean-Smith

-Matt, you dork, I gave you a nick-name at camp, remember? Of course you dont...:-) But I think "Reeces Pieces" is cute....but it's to long! oh well, I tried.
Robert Skyler
Irina Leora (This is Jasmine posting that middle name, so I might have spelled it wrong....) *
Hey everyone! I finally settled on a new name so everyone please call me
Phoebe now (or as Jake O. spells it Feebee) - Phoebe AKA Irina
Jasmine Renee-Maura
Tiffany Ashby
(Yeah my name is spelled correctly (Leora) Jasmine)
Hey guys! Put your middle names here and I'll scramble them up and give you all a new name. You know how Rachael got "Naela"? I mixed up Cassandra and Rachael, and there it was. :) ~Eire
a thought: nicknames don't necessarily have to be bestowed. what do you want to be called? just announce your new names; i'm sure wikifolk will be happy to oblige! witchbaby
Ok, I'm in need of a nickname! (Or maybe I'm not.. I do like my name) Regardless, I've never been able to figure out a good nickname for myself! Any suggestions? :-)
My name is Noam Aaron Sturmwind.. though I prefer the Hebrew pronunciation for my middle name, which is Aharon.
- I've called him Noamy, but maybe he'd kill you if you did that *evilgrin* ~Eire
- Heh, Jennyrose calls me that, and so does my mom :-) I didn't think about that one cause it's so close to my name!

- Noam, you already have a nickname, Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, don'y you remember? -Robyn, who was there when he was given that one
- - *blinks* I don't remember that! How did that come up, and what was it referring to?

- *cough* *snicker* Yes, do tell! *giggle* *cough* ~Eire
- Hey! It was completely innocent I'm sure! I just can't remember... really! ;-)

Ok, I've got a nickname, thanks to Kim. W. You'll find me on IRC as Rion (ree-on)
Ali has taken the liberty of giving herself, Adam D., Dan, and myself all these cutesy-poo, make-me-barf nicknames. Ali is... uh.. Sugar Lips, Dan is InkyDoo, I'm.... geez, I don't remember mine, and Adam is... uh, I don't remember his, either. *laughs*
- God, girl, get it straight! Argh! I'm Pootie-Pie, Adam D. is Sugarlips, Dan is InkyDoo and you're Buttercup! -Ali
Help! I'm in dire need of a nickname! There's too many Jasmine's out there in the vast world of wiki 'n IRC... My full name is Jasmine Marie Sheldon... the only nickname I've ever really had is Jaz, and JazCat on the computer. Any & all suggestions welcome!
- Hello! Thanks to fabulous help on IRC, I'm going by Jadzia...
Smiles 'n Hugs to All ~Jadzia
- And you have Jazzberry! -franfran
There was a discussion in #nbtsc a while ago about languages. Julia
mentioned Hockett's design features of language, a list of attributes that
human languages tend to have in various ways. Among them there's the notion
that words are fairly arbitrary: We think "nose" means "nose", simply
because our culture agrees on this. The word itself is no more "nose"-like
than, say "dog", but since everyone else calls 'em noses, so do I.
I think a similar principle applies to names: What makes names "name-like"
is simply that they are used as names. Most names don't have an other
meaning, generally, than being what you use to refer to a person. They're
not "contentful" words, like most in English are: Most names contain no
"real" words as their parts, no suffixes, nothing like that. They're fairly
arbitrary, and they're only a name because everyone generally agrees that it
is. My name is either "Rick" or "Aredridel", simply because everyone knows
me as that not vice versa, really.
So maybe that's something to consider when picking a name: use it like one.
Words like "Petunia-pot" are harder to think of as "you", since one ends up
distracted by the concept of a pot of flowers. It's a cute association, but
stays firmly a nickname.
Also, in English, names are capitalized. I've watched people's nicknames on
IRC, and the ones that everyone adopts as someone's "real" name are almost
universally capitalized and most of the ones that don't get adopted are
lowercased.

my nick for myself is kymi...some guy in a chat room gave me the idea. i never really liked the name kimmy, but i like the weird spelling. ~kymi~
hey! i want a nickname! i think the only one people used at camp was cutie, but all in all that doesn't fit me, people who have seen the "other side" wouldn't call me cutie to save them, and i just don't like it. i want a real fuckin' nickname...oh yeah...i guess i should probably say who's talking, i'm julia, from session 1 this year...well hugz to all *julia*
