Reading the FeminitY, MascuLinity, and HomoPhobia pages made me think of this. Do we have a page on Wiki for this already? I couldn't find one, and this being a really important issue for me, I thought I'd go ahead and start one. Especially since I think Sexism ties in so much with what alot of people have been saying on the gender and HomoPhobia pages. So what do you think? How does sexism affect you or those around you? Do you feel sexist? How does our culture/the media affect you? What do you do to combat sexism?

We're all sexist. Meaning, we all have lots of stuff in our heads about "male" and "female" and "masculine" and "feminine" that we didn't put there, much of it offensive. Jessica
Cory sez: sexism is in my pants!
So Spike sez: I'm gonna go look for sexism.
NickV sez: sexism is a fucking jerk! I kicked sexism's ass!
- Excuse me, but sexism is a real and valid issue and making fun of it in an immature manner isn't going to help anything.
they are just having fun. i'm sure they know it is real. but it doesn't kill a person to be silly about real things. and its not like they were saying 'sexism is a good thing' they were just being silly. you can't go through like always being serious. well i guess you can, but i wouldn't.
Yeah, I totally agree with that. Humor is important for every kind of issue!
My brief ditty on sexism:
I think sexism is different than what many people percieve it as. If there are men who think that women should only belong in the house, and cook and clean, and be kept from learning the math and sciences... that's real sexism. If there are women who think the same thing (about themselves, no less), well then damn! they're sexist too! Women who claim that men are violent animals who's only use is for procreation, that's sexist too.
Women and men who generalize about each other based on sterotypes they've learned, well, they're misinformed. They should be educated though example, not attacked. I'm not going to attack men for being sexist if they consider me weak (in all areas) or dumb, I'm going to show them that they're wrong, and gain some respect in the process. I've proved myself in those areas, and I've made some people wake up. It wasn't just "oh, she's pretty good for a girl" I believe I made them change their minds about their sterotype of girls in general.
