Okay, so here's my idea, all yee mechanical/computer geneuses teem up together, and figgure out how to get nanotech going, you know, figgure out how to make microscopic little machines that can turn anything into anything else, you just have to tell them what to do, then all we need is the nano-recipe for a huge, floating platform, say, 10 miles in diamiter, with a few docks, and otherwize just filled say, 20 or 30 feet deep with nice rich soil. Then we get a contract to take all of New York State's trash, (trust me, they'll be thrilled, to get rid of it) and we get them to ship it out to the mid atlantic somewhere, where we're set up with a few little ships. We take the trash, and let our little nano-engeneer-drones do the rest, vuala, a nice big, but not too big, island. Anquer ourselves in international waters, and don't make any enimys. If we get more people, do it again, connect them with a nice, earily translusent, flexaglass tunnel, going underwater between the two islands. Name? How'sabout "Theory" or "Zion" or "Fuck-You-Corporate-Society-Ville" ...naahh... I am all about not making enimes, they tend to come along and kick your ass later, it's not worth the bother. As for government, with the small group we've got, we can at least start out with as close to a tribe as we can get. Tribes rock, anyone who thinks I'm being a sappy-new-age-guru can go read all of Daniel Quinn's books.... all of them, and then if they still want to bug me, I'll listen... anyway, tribes rock, they're very much like democracy, except in a small enough form that it works, unlike what we have... hell... what we have isn't even a democracy, it's a republic. anyway... so yeah, yeee haw... I'm drooling with ideas... mmmm.... we could drift a bit too, go northish in the summer, and dip down back to the equator for the winter... oooohh... we could have mango trees... The Taiwanese government has been specifically breeding mangos and they've done a hell of a good job... maybe we could buy a few seeds from them.... mmmmm.... I doubt most of you have ever tasted reeeeaaally good mango [1] ... they have to be fresh. hmmm... and let's see... what else... ooohhh.... this is perfect - I love the idea of a community like this, but I don't like it too crouded, or to in-yo'-face, I rreeeeeaaly like some privacy, but hey, if we had a nice circlar island like ten, or twenty miles across, we could be a bit spread out. We could have a town, but it wouldn't need to be crouded we could each have our own house... we could each design our own house!!! and we could ban automobiles. Just have little rail system that can get you within 3-5 miles of most of anywhere on the island (unless we just left some space open, a forrest or something... yummm....) and yeah, 2.2 bikes per-human hehehe... and nice un-intrusive paths for biking.[0] Hmmm... we might need our island to have odd edges... like a ridge around the whole outside edge, to keep big waves off, but then somehow the island would extend out enough that we could have a beach... humm... might be a problem at open sea... ...oooooh!!!! how'about a bay!... or a lake, yeah... that's it, a nice big lake! too go swimming in!... and hotbaths... hotbaths looking out over the ocian.... I think I'm going to have to get back to this later... I should brain-storm off-line, we don't have very good web-access... ~mr.z~ Haha! That's a great idea! What do you mean by nano-technology?
