Aircraft Carrier

The Aircraft Carrier (or other discarded military ocean-goer with a large open-deck) will cruise international waters, housing 30-100 people very comfortably (since it was originally designed for thousands of soldiers and crew in cramped quarters). It's tarmac will be mostly torn up, and compost laid down until it's fit for lawns, playgrounds (swings are a must) and organic gardens. Solar panels on deck will provide for all our electrical wants. We'll tear down some walls below deck to create larger quarters and common rooms as well.

If anyone has any suggestions about make and model, other modifications, projects and adventures for the vessel to undertake, etc, please add them. I'll do some drawings up soon. ~Reanna [1]

  • Oh my god that sounds so awesome!!! You know, I think we should put up actual websites for these great community ideas... it'd be easier to find then. Mailing lists are also possible, but I think that some people are on enough lists already so I don't know. How are you going to get an aircraft carrier thing?? wanderlust the urban pixie
  • There's only one place to find and buy this kind of thing: eBAY! Ooh yeah, this idea rocks the cosmos (and then some), it's like the Dream House, only it FLOATS! *cheers the creative thinking that brewed this idea* -Adam
  • okay I really adore this and would be willing to get serious about it, I'm writting a grant proposal right now but I need some outlines from the geeks as to what exactly this would entail... write me at Miranda at nbtsc.org
  • wouldn't an old barge be easier to locate and a hell of a lot cheeper? (and most likely available in whatever size we want)
    • it sure would, and I've been talking with my opa (retired german merchant marine captain and professor at various shipping colleges in canada)and he says barges would be ideal for this. they also tend to be safer. I'm also going to talk to Kris Holm (Xtreme unicycle god) because he runs this awesome mountain-unicycle course in the backwoods of illinois every summer entirely on grants, so he'll know some good american philanthropic societies. another thing is we might want to play up our "lack of Education" (capital E) as some kind of hardship because "dissadvantaged youth" are very chic right now. email me Miranda at nbtsc.org
  • There are military owned barges going up for auction and selling for substantially less than a bus. Someone email me so we can plot. Erek at nbtsc.org

[1] Had a discussion about this on IRC tonight (Thursday May 11, 2000) with AredridelStauck, Shad, and TheUrbanPixie.. AircraftCarrierLog1 here.
